In a recent interview with George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America, Ewan McGregor makes a comment that is music to our ears. While talking about his current movie, George puts up a still from another movie Ewan shot with Jim Carrey. In it, the two are seen kissing. George's comment is nothing short of homophobic. He basically asks Ewan what's up with the picture. Ewan responds ""Well that's just two men kissing, and it's, uh, in this age, in 2010 it's extraordinary that it's still an object of humor." Love the comment Ewan! Then George proceeds to push saying "it looks like it's more than a kiss, you are making out". What an idiot. George Stephanopoulos needs to be yanked from his job on ABC. Ewan stood his ground and they moved on to the next topic.
Thank you Ewan McGregor for standing your ground and helping move everyone forward. Two guys kissing should not be a big deal. George, you're an idiot. ABC...you're losing your gay touch.
Obama attempted to do some damage control this past weekend. The Gay & Lesbian Community has been very vocal with their worry that some of Obama's promises are going to be left on the side of the road. Sure, the United States is going though some bad times. Economy is on the mend, World Relations is trying to be improved...and there is the Healthcare Reform mess. Well, the Gay & Lesbian Community feels that Obama is not acting fast enough on his promises.
President Obama promised to end the Don't Ask, Don't Tell military policy...yet nothing has been done to get rid of it. He also expressed his disapproval of DOMA (Defensive Marriage Act). DOMA is what is standing in the way of a Nationally recognized Gay Marriage law.
On October's Equal Rights March, President Obama took time to address the Gay & Lesbian Community at the Human Rights Campaign Dinner. This is only the 2nd time in history that a President has spoken to a group that is marching on Washington. While the speech was powerful...some are still worried that the time line was not defined and will get pushed out. Obama says he is still against DOMA and the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, and will end them. He stops short of saying when.

Here is another crazy Bible verse/law. Once again...the people that are hiding behind the Bible and religion to try and discriminate against the gay community...pick and chose what they want to live by. According the Leviticus 11:7-12, they better be watching their diets. The same 'book' you people are using is telling you this: And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you. [...] And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: [...] Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
What does it mean? It means that you CANNOT eat any of the following: Pork, lobster, shrimp...or ANY shellfish.
There are some religions that adhere to this rule..but we are not talking about the small percentage. We are talking about the large percentage that votes no on gay rights and hides behind the Bible. If they eat any of those meats...they will go to hell.
Kind of crazy, right? If you think so...why not follow that..but condemn gays?
It amazes me that there are so many 'Christian' haters out there that are doing EVERYTHING in their power to deny civil rights to gays. They claim that it's 'God' that is speaking through them...it's the Bible that says Homosexuality is a sin. Hmmmm. Well isn't it interesting the things they choose to say are a sin and some they 'overlook'. There are so many rules and sins in the Bible, it's no wonder they only read the passages and sins that go against what they believe.
Here is a passage from the same Bible that they claim says homosexuality is a sin. It's 1 Timothy 2:11-15. Here is the passage: A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
What does this mean? Simply put it means that women were created second (Eve was created AFTER Adam) and women are to submit to men. Women are not worthy of teaching or having any authority over men.
Crazy huh? This is an actual passage from the Book of Timothy. I'm guessing that all of those people that are hiding behind the Bible to push gay hate...live by this rule. If not...they are total hypocrites.
Next car on the gay marriage train is Iowa. This week, the Iowa Supreme Court decided that not allowing gays to marry was illegal and discriminatory. As a result, gay marriage will be allowed in Iowa starting on April 27, 2009.
This fight has been going for years and the surprise outcome is great news for the gay community. It's great to see some states waking up and realizing that this is a civil rights issue and not a social issue too. We all need to join together and press the Federal Government to repeal the Defensive Marriage Act. If that is gone, it would pave the way for federally recognized gay marriages. That's what we really need. This is a civil rights issue that is gaining momentum. The people should not be allowed to 'vote'. It is unconstitutional for a group of majority citizens to vote on the rights of minority citizens.
Iowa is now the third state in the US to allow gay marriage. Iowa's Supreme Court ruled on Friday April 3, 2009 that the gay marriage ban was unconstitutional and has cleared the way for gay marriage.
Iowa now joins Massassuchets and Vermont as states allowing gays to marry. New York could be close to allowing gay marriage as it now only will recognize gay marriages from other states. We have to ride the momentum wave and now work on a getting Federal recognition. Then the states have to allow it.
I'm not a lawyer, but isn't there a US constitutional amendment that allows for free movement within the states? All the states that ban gay marriage would be in violation of that right. If you are a gay married couple from Vermont, you wouldn't be able to move to...say Georgia or Florida because your marriage wouldn't be recognized. That action by those states are preventing you from moving where you wish. The same law smacked Florida with it's car 'impact' fee for out of state car registrations and the state was forced to pay back millions.
