Oprah loves Dustin Lance Black!

Posted on Sunday, March 1, 2009 in Equal Rights, Gay Marriage, Gay Support, Politics, Pop Culture, Video Clip

Not only did Dustin Lance Black win the Academy Award for Milk (see previous post), but Oprah loved the story! Dustin was recently on the Oprah show and was interviewed via satellite. Love the exposure Dustin is getting for all the gays out there. Keep it up Dustin and thank you so much for all you do. If you haven't seen Milk...go see it NOW! It's a powerful movie and will definitely motivate you. Again...we need a Federal initiative for gay marriage, just like Dustin says.

Harney Milk would be so proud.

Oscar likes Milk.

Well we all wish the movie Milk would have won Best Picture...but the movie managed to pull a few big wins. Sean Penn won the Oscar for Best Actor for his portrayal of Harvey Milk. Even with his reputation of being extremely difficult to work with...his speech was great and heart-felt. Way to go Sean.

Milk also managed to snag the 'Best Original Screenplay'. Dustin Lance Black was the winner and had a powerful speech. It couldn't have been said any better in such a short speech. Congratulations Dustin!

I love Dustin's comment that the gay marriage rights will come 'soon' and will be Federal. That is what our community needs. FEDERAL marriage rights. The process of going state-by-state is not the right way to move. This issue is a human rights issue and should not be left in each state's hands. Imagine if we left slavery in the hands of each state. How many states do you think would still have it on their books? Scary to think about.

We Love Jon Stewart, not Mike Huckabee.

Jon Stewart talked with Mike Huckabee about Gay Marriage.  Jon totally has out backs and made some GREAT points in this interview.  I totally love the "Religion is more of a choice than being gay is' statement.  That is toally 100% correct.  I'm very impressed at Jon's technique and he makes his point very clear.  He supports gay marriage.  Check out the clip-

Ft. Lauderdale’s gay community says good riddance to mayor.

In a few weeks, the Ft. Lauderdale gay community will be saying...so long, fare well...to it's hateful mayor - Jim Naugle.  They will also be saying GOOD RIDDANCE...thank you term limits!

For those of you unaware...the outgoing Ft. Lauderdale mayor Naugle made a statement back in 2007 that outraged many in the community (gay and straight).  To summarize and paraphrase...he basically said that 'the homosexual...not gay...gay means happy and most gay people are not happy...is the reason he is proposing a new automated public restroom at the beach.'  The automated restroom would be 'timed' and the doors would open automatically after a certain time limit has been reached.  Naugle claims that the beach is full of 'homosexuals' cruising for gay sex everywhere at the beach.  Naugle also took a shot at the gay population in the city..saying that visitors that hit Ft. Lauderdale for good times are exposing themselves to HIV.  He also went on to say that he was against any advertising dollars going to support any gay establishments...especially bathhouses and sex clubs (like straight people don't have them??!).  The funny thing is that the Ft. Lauderdale police even said there is no 'public sex problem' at the beach.

While the mayor remained in office..the public outcry was amazing.  The Travel and Tourism board kicked him off of the committee and Naugle's words are still heard at this round of elections.  Hopefully these hateful comments by Naugle will help someone that is more positive for all minority communities in the city get elected.

With all of Naugle's hate...gay tourism in Ft. Lauderdale is at an all time high.  Gay businesses are thriving and growing in numbers.  While the mainly 'straight' entertainment district on Las Olas is floundering...the hip gay mecca in Wilton Manors is growing every week.  Ft. Lauderdale has one of the largest gay populations in the US and Naugle's words have not stopped that.  It's one of the most gay friendly areas in Florida as well.  It's great to see the community uniting and working past one person's hateful views.

California Gay Marriage Ban Doners Outed!

Posted on Friday, January 30, 2009 in Discrimination, Equal Rights, Gay Hater, Gay Marriage, Gay Support, Politics

A California movement to allow the Gay Marriage Ban Donors to be removed from public lists has FAILED!  HA HA!

They hypocritical cowards (more than likely the Morons...I mean Mormons) are claiming they are being targeted for their political views.  Uh...hello idiots..that is what you are doing to the gay population.  They are trying to take away our rights as American Citizens.  If you want to promote discrimination...then you should have the balls to defend your actions.  I hardly think you actually get 'death' threats for voting yes on Prop 8.  Maybe your hair stylist will cut a chunk of hair off...your flight attendant will give you a dirty glass...or your server will give you regular coffee instead of the caffeine-free stuff you wanted.  Don't you just LOVE the Mormon Church?  I've never seen such a hateful group of people.

Cheers to ABC. Kinda.

Posted on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 in Gay Support, Pop Culture

Cheers to ABC for leading the GLAAD nominations this year. Shows like Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty led them to the front of the line. For those of you that are not aware...those shows has it's fair share of gay characters and story-lines. While they are not the 'main' story-lines...it's still not too bad. However...it seems that ABC is putting Ugly Betty on the back burner for now and replacing it with Samantha Who? and some other sit-com. Samantha Who? is a cute show..but I hope Betty can kick butt and make it back on the air. I haven't heard that it was cancelled...maybe it's just on a break. Fingers crossed.
