Everyone mark your calendars and plan on being in Washington D.C. October 10-11, 2009. It's the National Equality March on Washington that is planned to make our point that Gays, Lesbians & Transgender citizens are entitled to EQUALITY. The march is not your typical "let's all party and march". This is no party. It's to make a statement and to move a step closer to equality.
The movement is not saying gays just want marriage. It's saying we want equal protection and benefits as stated in the constitution of the United States.

It's being reported that the NYPD is cracking down on some porn shops...and it's not in the way you'd think. In certain areas, they want to shut the shops down, but can't unless they find a good reason. Porn is legal to sell in certain places in the city. When they can't find a reason, it's being reported that the NYPD is making them up. Not little 'white lies' either. They are arresting gay men for NO REASON!
Here is reportedly how it goes down-
Middle-aged man walks into porn shop. Middle-aged man is approached by good looking younger man. They talk. The young man flirts and the two then agree to 'get busy' and leave. Just as they are about to leave the shop...the younger man says "oh, I'll pay you for the sex". This confuses the middle aged man and when they step outside, plain-clothes NYPD are waiting to arrest the middle aged man for solicitation! Can you believe it? Not only is it entrapment...but it's an out right lie. They are taking advantage of middle aged men by using a much younger attractive man. Most of the men are well into their 40's and the young man is in his 20's. Now I've seen some street walkers and let me tell you...most are not over 30.
Most of the men arrested are so shocked and embarrased, they don't fight the charge and go for a quick trial. These false arrests are giving the NYPD ammunition to say that these porn shops are full of prostitutes. What a bunch of sneeky, slimy police. The big kicker is that some of the arrests go on in the gay parts of the city like Chelsea.
There are some that are trying to shed light on this issue and it seems to be working. So those of you visiting or living in NYC...be careful. Those of you that want to help...contact the NYC Gay Rights Group.

In a few weeks, the Ft. Lauderdale gay community will be saying...so long, fare well...to it's hateful mayor - Jim Naugle. They will also be saying GOOD RIDDANCE...thank you term limits!
For those of you unaware...the outgoing Ft. Lauderdale mayor Naugle made a statement back in 2007 that outraged many in the community (gay and straight). To summarize and paraphrase...he basically said that 'the homosexual...not gay...gay means happy and most gay people are not happy...is the reason he is proposing a new automated public restroom at the beach.' The automated restroom would be 'timed' and the doors would open automatically after a certain time limit has been reached. Naugle claims that the beach is full of 'homosexuals' cruising for gay sex everywhere at the beach. Naugle also took a shot at the gay population in the city..saying that visitors that hit Ft. Lauderdale for good times are exposing themselves to HIV. He also went on to say that he was against any advertising dollars going to support any gay establishments...especially bathhouses and sex clubs (like straight people don't have them??!). The funny thing is that the Ft. Lauderdale police even said there is no 'public sex problem' at the beach.
While the mayor remained in office..the public outcry was amazing. The Travel and Tourism board kicked him off of the committee and Naugle's words are still heard at this round of elections. Hopefully these hateful comments by Naugle will help someone that is more positive for all minority communities in the city get elected.
With all of Naugle's hate...gay tourism in Ft. Lauderdale is at an all time high. Gay businesses are thriving and growing in numbers. While the mainly 'straight' entertainment district on Las Olas is floundering...the hip gay mecca in Wilton Manors is growing every week. Ft. Lauderdale has one of the largest gay populations in the US and Naugle's words have not stopped that. It's one of the most gay friendly areas in Florida as well. It's great to see the community uniting and working past one person's hateful views.

If you happen to be passing through Brentwood, TN and are looking for a hotel to stay in....DO NOT STAY at the Artee Hotel. The Artee Hotel is actually the old Holiday Inn in the city and was recently purchased by Tarun Surti and re-branded. The hotel's name 'Artee' is said to mean "a divine light in front of God" in Indian. Sounds nice right? WRONG. The hotel's owner Tarun Surti hates gays.
It's being reported that Surti asked a gay employee for a list of 'other gays' employed by the hotel. He then supposedly started to fire all those on the list. He's been very vocal about the reason and says he "doesn't give a damn...they can sue me if they want...I don't want any gays in leadership roles in my hotel". Uh...idiot...have you not been in the hotel business long? It has a high concentration of gays.
Obviously...this jerk is going to be sued. Good. Take him for everything he's got so he loses the hotel. Discrimination has no room in our country any longer. If these people do their jobs well, you cannot just fire them because they are gay. What's next? He won't want any other races working in his hotel?
Bottom line is...stay someplace else if you visit Brentwood.
